Modern Aging Singapore Winners to Be Announced at Final Event This Friday

Join ACCESS Health Singapore on Friday, December 4, from 2:30 pm to 5 pm, for the announcement of the winners of Modern Aging Singapore. The winning team will receive fifty thousand dollars in seed funding and continued support from NUS Enterprise. The top six teams will present their final pitches live to the audience. Before the winner is announced, the panel of distinguished judges will participate in a panel discussion on new mindsets and opportunities in aging and innovation. The judges are each leaders in the fields of aging, healthcare, and investment. The judges in the panel include Janice Chia, founder and CEO of Ageing Asia; William Liu, chairman and managing partner of Stream Global; Dr. William Haseltine, founder and president of ACCESS Health International; and Dr. Lily Chan, chief executive officer of NUS Enterprise. The discussion will be moderated by Adrienne Mendenhall, the country manager of ACCESS Health Singapore.

The final event will also feature eminent senior role model Dr. Uma Rajan as she shares secrets to successful aging. The former director of School Health Services at the Ministry of Health of Singapore, Dr. Rajan had a stellar career in health policymaking. She now devotes more time to her lifelong passion of dance. She is affectionately known as the “dancing doctor” to her colleagues and peers. Come hear her insights on aging well.

This Friday marks the crowning event of the inaugural run of Modern Aging Singapore. Modern Aging will expand next year, both in scope and duration. Come discover the best ideas that emerged from this business accelerator focused on supporting new ideas for our aging population. Attendees will be the first to hear about what’s in store for Modern Aging in 2016. The final event will also provide an excellent opportunity for networking with experts, investors, and entrepreneurs.

About the Judges

Janice Chia

JaniceSingaporean entrepreneur Janice Chia founded Ageing Asia Pte Ltd with the mission to drive innovation in how future generations age. Aging Asia engages the business community to create better products and services that will enable healthy, independent, and dignified aging. Janice believes that the social challenges of aging can be transformed into an economic opportunity for Asia. Janice has been actively involved in consulting to organizations seeking global best practices in housing, health, and care models that can be translated for the Asian marketplace. Her vision is to change the way we age in Asia.

William Liu

williamliuWilliam Liu began his career in the information technology industry in 1970, after obtaining a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Manchester and a Master’s in Operational Research and Management Studies from the Imperial College of London. Over three decades, William has held senior positions and board memberships in many local and global companies. In addition to his role as chairman and managing partner at Stream Global, he is also the chairman of W3 Infocomm Group Pte Ltd, an investment holding company. He currently sits on the boards of many new startups in the emerging information and communications technology arena.

Dr. William Haseltine

BillWilliam A. Haseltine, PhD, has an active career in both science and business. He was a professor at Harvard Medical School and Harvard School of Public Health from 1976 to 1993. He is well known for his pioneering work on cancer, HIV/AIDS, and genomics. He has authored several books, including Affordable Excellence: The Singapore Healthcare Story, published in 2013. He is the founder of Human Genome Sciences, Inc., and several other successful biotechnology companies. He is chairman of the Haseltine Foundation for Science and the Arts, and the US-China Health Summit. He is a member of the advisory boards of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (India), the Ragon Institute, the FXB Center for Health and Human Rights at the Harvard School of Public Health and the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) of India.

Dr. Lily Chan

LilyDr. Lily Chan is chief executive officer of NUS Enterprise at the National University of Singapore. She leads NUS Enterprise with vision to inject an enterprise dimension into NUS teaching and research. Prior to joining NUS, Lily was managing director for investments  at Bio*One Capital Pte Ltd, an investment arm of the Singapore Economic Development Board. She brings with her more than twenty years of biomedical industry experience, from initiating startups, venture investments, and active board involvements in many biotech companies. She completed her PhD in Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Illinois, USA. Lily holds two US patents  – for an HIV1/HIV2 viral detection kit and method as well as for dengue virus peptides and methods. Both are now commercial products, and one has become the confirmatory gold standard for retroviral testing in Europe.
