Chang Liu

Chang Liu

Managing Director for Singapore, Mainland China, and Hong Kong

Chang Liu manages our work in East and Southeast Asia. He is an author of the Epilogue to Affordable Excellence, which documents the progress toward sustainable high quality healthcare in Singapore during 2013 and 2014. He also works with Dr. William Haseltine on our forthcoming book A City for All Ages. He is involved in designing and supervising ACCESS Health aging related projects in Southeast Asia and Greater China.

In addition to his work with ACCESS Health, Chang Liu is an assistant professor in Health Services and Systems Research at Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School and the Center for Ageing and Education at Duke-NUS. At Duke, Chang's work focuses on health insurance policy and long term care policy. His current research examines the impact of insurance policies on the behavior of patients and providers and the economic implications using econometric study designs. He also participates in several projects on aging in Singapore, including large scale national surveys and intervention programs. Before joining Duke-NUS, he worked at the Center for Gerontology and Healthcare Research at Brown University, where he studied long term care and elder care policies in both the United States and China. He earned his PhD in Health Services Research (2013) from Brown University with a specialization in health economics. He was awarded the eXebs Friedrich J. Schoening International Scholarship and was named an eXebs Fellow during his exchange study at the European Business School, Germany. He also received a Master's degree in Finance (2009) from the Guanghua School of Management of Peking University, China.

Rachel Leung

Rachel Leung

Adjunct Consultant

Rachel Leung works with Chang Liu and the ACCESS Health Hong Kong office. She facilitates our joint programs with the Chinese University of Hong Kong Jockey Club Institute of Ageing. She is currently completing her undergraduate studies in public health at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Previously, Rachel worked as a course developer for the Master’s in Executive Healthcare Leadership program at the Brown University School of Public Health. She has also worked on water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) projects in Cambodia.

Siddhartha Bhattacharya

Siddhartha Bhattacharya

Country Director, India

Siddhartha Bhattacharya is responsible for the overall development, management, and leadership of the activities of ACCESS Health International in India. His responsibilities include the establishment of collaborations and management of partnerships with government and the public and private sectors as well as with research and development organizations.

Previously, Siddhartha served as chief operating officer and technology head for the Emergency Management and Research Institute of GVK. The Institute delivers integrated emergency response and technology driven health outreach services to seventeen states and union territories in India through public private partnerships. In prior leadership roles, he has worked with Dell, Inc, (USA), Philips (India), and the government of Kerala in a number of cross functional global assignments. Siddhartha holds a Bachelor's degree with honors in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, Rajasthan. He also received his Master's in Business Administration from the John M. Olin School of Business at Washington University in St. Louis, MO. In addition, Siddhartha received an Executive Scholar certificate in sales and marketing from the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. Siddhartha is interested in people, projects, and alliances that thrive on rapid change, scale, and globalization. He likes to mentor promising startups in his personal time.

Pratyush Kumar Bishi

Pratyush Kumar Bishi

Pratyush Kumar Bishi works with the Quality and Process Improvement team in India. He manages monitoring and evaluation of the Safe Care, Saving Lives project in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. He has over eight years of experience in program management and monitoring and evaluation in the field of reproductive, maternal, newborn, child, and adolescent health, also known as RMNCH+A, and noncommunicable diseases. Prior to joining ACCESS Health, Pratyush worked with UNICEF, the government of Gujarat, and the Haryana State Health Resource Center. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics and Statistics. He also has a Master's in Health Management from the Indian Institute of Health Management Research, Jaipur.

Taara Chandani

Taara Chandani

Consultant

Taara Chandani works with the ACCESS Health India team. She helps manage the design of the Primary Care Pilot Program and implementation of the Center for Health Market Innovations Learning Exchange. Taara has fifteen years of experience in health sector financing and capacity building across Africa and Asia. She has worked with a variety of consulting firms and aid agencies, including Banyan Global, Blue Lotus Advisory, the Microinsurance Centre, USAID, and the United Nations Development Programme. Taara holds a Master's degree in Public Administration from Columbia University and a Bachelor’s degree from Oberlin College.

Amritayan Das

Amritayan Das

Consultant

Amritayan Das works with the Primary Care team in India. He works in Lucknow on the design of the Primary Care Pilot Program in Uttar Pradesh. Prior to joining ACCESS Health, Amritayan worked on a program to support grassroots level healthcare delivery in Bihar. His experience working with one the most challenging geographies for healthcare delivery provided him with valuable insights on frontline service delivery. Prior to his work in Bihar, Amritayan supported public hospital facility improvements in both rural and urban areas. Amritayan has a Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering from Pondicherry University and an MBA in Healthcare Management from Manipal University.

Gayatri Emani

Gayatri Emani

Gayatri Emani works on the Safe Care Saving Lives project as part of the Quality and Process Improvement team in India. She has an undergraduate degree in Microbiology and an MBA in Hospital and Healthcare Management from the Apollo Institute of Healthcare Management. Gayatri brings experience in healthcare delivery and patient care services. In her previous positions at SM Diabetes Clinic and Apollo Hospitals, she was responsible for maintaining standards in patient care and patient satisfaction levels. Outside of work, her personal interests include cooking various cuisines and gardening.

Dr. Vivek Gupta works with our India team on several Quality and Process Improvement and Healthcare Finance programs and projects, including the Joint Learning Network for Universal Health Coverage. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery and a graduate degree in Hospital Management from the Administrative Staff College of India in Hyderabad.

Bhavesh Jain

Bhavesh Jain

Bhavesh Jain works on the Joint Learning Network for Universal Health Coverage and the associated Joint Learning Fund. He manages the Medical Audit Collaborative of the Joint Learning Network and is involved with the Claims Management and Health Technology Assessments joint learning technical initiatives. Previously with ACCESS Health, he managed the International Knowledge Linkage program under the Health Financing Support Program. Bhavesh has experience working with a spectrum of organizations, including consulting firms, multilateral donor partners, corporate insurance companies, academic institutions, think tanks, and governments. He is one of the founding members of the Indian Health Economics and Policy Association, a group of professionals promoting education and research in the field of health economics in India. He holds a Master’s degree in Health Policy, Innovation, and Management from Maastricht University, Netherlands, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Health Management from the Institute of Health Management Research, Jaipur.

Rohini Kalvakuntla manages the Public Private Partnerships Project and the India work for the Center for Health Market Innovations. She previously interned with the Center for Economic and Social Sciences, studying the evolution of microfinance programs in India. Rohini has a Master’s degree in Social Policy and Development from the London School of Economics and read for her Master’s degree in International Management at King's College London. She is an active blogger on the power of uncommon ideas and social businesses.

Anudeep Kathuroju

Anudeep Kathuroju works on the Safe Care, Saving Lives project in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Prior to joining the ACCESS Health team full time, he interned with the Quality and Process Improvement team. Anudeep has also worked for a UN project at the Administrative Staff College of India in Hyderabad. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy from Kakatiya University and an MBA in Healthcare and Hospital Management from the University of Hyderabad.

Anuradha Katyal

Dr. Anuradha Katyal works with our India team on Healthcare Finance and Primary Care programs and projects. Before joining ACCESS Health International, Anuradha was a researcher at the Administrative Staff College of India and a practicing dentist. During her house surgeonship, she worked at the Primary Health Centre, Kaiwara Village, Kolhar, in Karnataka, India. She was instrumental in arranging healthcare camps in schools and villages. As part of the Miles of Smiles Dental Survey conducted by Colgate India Limited, Anuradha screened, treated, and raised oral hygiene awareness among slum dwellers. She has a Master’s in Healthcare Management from the University of Surrey and a Bachelor’s of Dental Surgery from the MS Ramaiah Dental College in Bengaluru. She is also a member of the Indian Health Economics and Policy Association. In addition to her work in health, Anuradha is passionate about poetry, music, photography, and bird watching.

Prashanthi Krishnakumar works on the Public Private Partnerships Project. She also contributes to the India work for the Center for Health Market Innovations. She has an MBA in Healthcare and Hospital Management from the University of Hyderabad as well as a Master’s degree in Bioscience from Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning.

Sireesha Perabathina

Sireesha Perabathina manages the Joint Learning Network for Universal Health Coverage and the associated Joint Learning Fund. She has over a decade of management and administrative experience in healthcare and has been extensively involved in program design, management, and implementation support for integrated health system solutions. Sireesha was a Ford Foundation Fellow and has a dual Master’s of Public Health, in Maternal and Child Health and International Health, from the School of Public Health at Boston University. She also has an MBA in Healthcare from the Indian Institute of Health and Hospital Management and Research. Outside of work, Sireesha is an accomplished baker and painter.

Vikrant Prabhakar

Vikrant Prabhakar

Dr. Vikrant Prabhakar leads the Safe Care, Saving Lives project in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. He has several years of experience with collaborative quality improvement. During his work with the University Research Co., he led a quality improvement collaborative on maternal and child health in the state of Punjab, under the USAID funded ASSIST Project. Vikrant also spent more than eight years with the World Health Organization supporting polio eradication initiatives in Uttar Pradesh and Punjab. He has a Bachelor's degree in Medicine from Medical College, Kanpur, and a Medical degree in Community Medicine from Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, in Punjab.

Sujata Rao

Sujata Rao works with the Quality and Process Improvement Team in India. She facilitates the implementation of the Safe Care, Saving Lives project in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. She is a public health professional with a Master's in Health Management from the Indian Institute of Health Management Research, Jaipur. Prior to joining ACCESS Health, Sujata previously worked on advocacy communication and social mobilization and public private partnership portfolios at PATH. She has also worked with UNICEF and the government of Gujarat on different projects related to maternal and child health.

Lakshmi Shanthi manages the office administration needs for ACCESS Health International and oversees the maintenance and management of facilities, operations, and activities across ACCESS Health programs in eight countries. In addition to her organization wide responsibilities, she provides assistance to the Chief Operating Officer, Global Managing Director, and President. Lakshmi has a Master’s of Science in Biotechnology from the University College for Women, Osmania University in Hyderabad.

Dr. Sandesh Sibhinath is part of the Quality and Process Improvement team in India. He currently works on the Safe Care, Saving Lives neonatal collaborative in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Sandesh has a degree in physical therapy and worked as a clinical physiotherapist for over two years. He later pursued a graduate degree in Hospital Management from the Administrative Staff College of India in Hyderabad. Prior to joining ACCESS Health International, Sandesh worked at a private children’s specialty hospital in India, where he was responsible for resource mapping and strategic cost reduction initiatives.

Manish Kumar Singh is a part of the Quality and Process Improvement team. He focuses on projects in India and is currently working on the Safe Care, Saving Lives neonatal collaborative in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. He previously worked on various quality and process improvement initiatives at the Oasis Centre for Reproductive Medicine in Hyderabad. He holds a graduate degree in Hospital Management from the Administrative Staff College of India in Hyderabad. He also has a degree in Physiotherapy from the National Institute for the Orthopaedically Handicapped in Kolkata. He participated in an evaluation of the Janani-Shishu Suraksha Karyakram and Janani Suraksha Yojana programs at the National Rural Health Mission in Himachal Pradesh.

Amita Yadav works with ACCESS Health India team on the Primary Care Pilot Program. Amita has eight years of experience in health and public health in India, Bangladesh, and the US. Prior to ACCESS Health, Amita worked with the Clinton Health Access Initiative in Uttar Pradesh on the Childhood Diarrhea Management Program. Amita holds a Master’s degree in Public Health from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, a PhD from the Central Drug Research Institute in India, and completed her postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard Medical School.

Vishal Abhishek works on the Safe Care, Saving Lives project as a part of the Quality and Process Improvement Team in India. He performed his internship with the Quality and Process Improvement team at ACCESS Health and with Yashoda Hospitals, Hyderabad where he has worked for Quality Assurance department regarding laboratory services. He has also participated in Odisha Ministry of Health and Family Welfare's Evaluation of Primary Healthcare Centers in remote places of Odisha and National Urban Health Mission Telangana's evaluation of Urban Primary Healthcare Centers in and around Hyderabad. He has done report writing for Indo African Workshop on Public Private Partnerships in Health held by the Health Systems Research India Initiative in Kerala. He holds a Bachelors in Life sciences, Bachelors in Public Administration, and a graduate degree in Hospital and Healthcare administration from Administrative Staff College of India, Hyderabad.

Vyoma Dhar Sharma works on the Joint Learning Network for Universal Health Coverage. Previously, she was a consultant with Government Reforms and the Infrastructure Development advisory line of service at PricewaterhouseCoopers India. In this capacity, she was engaged in various assignments on public health, nutrition, water and sanitation, and gender and social norms with a variety of development partners such as the World Bank, UNICEF, DfID, JICA among others. She has a Master's degree in Development Studies from Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai and a Bachelor's degree in English Literature from Lady Shri Ram College for Women, New Delhi.

Thirumala Devi Balineni is the clinical lead Obstetrics currently working on the Safe Care, Saving Lives project in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Prior to joining ACCESS Health International, she worked in Andhra Pradesh Medical and Health Services for thirty years in as part of the teaching faculty. Thirumala completed her Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery and Master’s in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Guntur Medical College in Guntur. She has experience at all levels of healthcare from primary to tertiary. She is a constant learner and fond of acquiring new skills. Thirumala enjoys reading and is particularly interested in world history and people who have shaped the world we live in today.

Rashmi Singh

Rashmi Singh works on the Safe Care, Saving Lives project as Quality Lead. Prior to joining ACCESS Health, she worked as Advisor, Quality Improvement with University Research Co. where she was involved in the scale up of Quality Improvement work in the state of Himanchal Pradesh and Jharkhand. She is also the lead author of Improvement Guide, a manual for helping coaches in helping Quality Improvement teams at the facilities and was involved in developing “Change Packages” for USAID-ASSIST project. Rashmi Singh has also worked as a Quality Consultant in the technical wing of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the National Health System Resource Centre, with the Government of India and provided support to all states and UTs for quality interventions. Prior to that, she worked with Government of Gujarat at various levels, and totals more than eight years of experience at the district, state, and national level. Rashmi holds a Master's in Health Management from the Indian Institute of Health Management Research, Jaipur.

Jaidev Singh Anand works on the Health Financing Support Program as Senior Technical Specialist. Jaidev supports the development of a health financing strategy that will meet the needs of government, public, private, and academic partners. Before joining ACCESS Health International, he worked with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit in Dhaka, Bangladesh. As an advisor in the field of Health Financing, his role was to provide technical support and help build capacity within the government. Jaidev has completed his Bachelor’s in Pharmaceutical Sciences from Mumbai University, and also holds a Master’s degree in International Pharmacoeconomics and Health Economics from Cardiff University.

Manisha Tripathi

Manisha Tripathi works with ACCESS Health India team, on the Primary Care Pilot Program. Manisha has twelve years of work experience and six years of experience in public health. Prior to ACCESS Health, Manisha worked with the Population Services International and Family Health International 360 in Uttar Pradesh on strengthening essential behavior practices of the birth attendants, medical doctors, and other non clinical staff in Government facilities and the Childhood Diarrhea Management Program. Manisha holds a Master’s of Social Work, Bachelor’s Degree in Law, and is currently pursuing a Master’s in Business Administration, specializing in Hospital Administration.

Vijaya Lakshmi Suravarapu

Vijaya Lakshmi leads the technology implementation of the Safe Care, Saving Lives project in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. She is also the liaison between the Telangana State Government Health Insurance Agency and member countries of the Joint Learning Network for Universal Health Coverage to facilitate cross learning activities. Before joining ACCESS Health International, Vijaya worked in the role of Release Manager for Tech Mahindra Client, Microsoft. She has also worked with Aarogyasri Health Care Trust in the erstwhile state of Andhra Pradesh as Assistant General Manager, Project Monitoring Unit. She was responsible for overseeing the development, implementation and monitoring of end to end ICT aspects of the Aarogyasri Health Care eGovernance Application across the state of Andhra Pradesh. Vijaya was also the interface for IT Application and ICT related aspects for external entities. She was an Assistant Professor and served as the Head of Department for Osmania University affiliated Post Graduate College.

Vijaya has her Masters degree in Technology, Computer Science from Nagarjuna University and Master’s in Computer Applications from Andhra University. She is also ITIL V3 Foundation Certified in IT Service Management.

Ajitkumar Sudke

Director, Quality and Process Improvement

Ajitkumar leads the Quality and Process Improvement project in India. He is also responsible for the integration of quality improvement across all other programs of ACCESS Health International. Prior to ACCESS Health, Ajitkumar served as Senior Program Officer of Maternal Newborn and Child Health for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, India Country office where he led the Maternal and Childcare portfolio. His work includes providing technical support to grantees of the Foundation in Uttar Pradesh and Patna to strengthen and scale up critical maternal newborn and child health interventions. He has also worked closely with the maternal and child health divisions of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India and the National Health Systems Resource Center in developing the Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matrutva Abhiyaan operational guidelines. Ajitkumar has worked as a Health Specialist for UNICEF Guwahati, Health Officer for Patna, and Child Health Consultant for the ACCESS Health Hyderabad office. Ajitkumar has first hand experience working as a government medical officer in a primary health center, community health center, and district hospital in Maharashtra. He has led multiple innovations in mobile health in Assam that have won national and international recognition.

Ajitkumar holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Pediatrics from B.J. Medical College, Pune Maharashtra and Post Graduate Diploma in Maternal and Child Health from IGNOU, New Delhi. He has also received certificates in Equity Focussed Evaluation and National Evaluation Capacity Development for Country Led M&E Systems from Claremont Graduate University, a Dynamic Leadership Certificate from the Emerging Managers Program at Harvard Business Publishing, and a Green Belt Six Sigma from the Ministry of Micro Small and Medium Industries, Government of India. Ajitkumar is interested in scaling up global innovations impacting the lives of mothers and children and forging partnerships and collaborations that deliver results at scale. He likes to read, watch movies, and spend time on his farm and with his family in his personal time.

Sanjeev Kumar works on the Safe Care, Saving Lives project as Quality Lead. Prior to joining ACCESS Health, he was with the World Health Organization and a Tropical Disease Research Fellow at the James P. Grant School of Public Health in Dhaka Bangladesh. Before the fellowship, he worked with the Saving New born Lives Alliance-Save the Children, India as an Innovation Coordinator based in Bihar, where he looked for Implementation Research on Gentamycin-PSBI Management Rollout and Chlorohexidine-Cord care. He also worked on the Bihar Technical Assistance Support Team as a Quality Assurance Consultant, where he closely worked with the State Health Society, Regional Management Units and District Health Societies for planning and monitoring public Health facilities strengthening for Maternal &Child health and Quality Management System Installation across Bihar. He holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Health and Hospital Management specialized in health from the International Institute of Health and Hospital Management and Research, New Delhi. He is also currently pursuing a Master of Population Science from the International Institute of Population Science, Mumbai.

S. Prabhaker Vardhan works on the Safe Care, Saving Lives project as a Senior Associate. Prior to joining ACCESS Health, he worked as a State Training Officer based in Ranchi, Jharkhand under the United Nations Development Program for Electronic Vaccine Intelligence Network. He also worked as a Quality Assurance Consultant on the Bihar Technical Assistance Support Team, DFID, UK. Initiative, as a Quality Assurance Consultant, where he closely worked with the Regional Program Management Unit and District Health Societies Public Health facilities strengthening for maternal and child health and quality management system installation across Munger Division, Bihar. He holds a Bachelor of Technology, Biotechnology from St. Peters University, Chennai,Tamil Nadu. He is currently pursuing Master of Public Health from the Asian Institute of Public Health at Utkal University in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.

Qianjin Guo helps to coordinate the Dream Works for the Elderly project with ACCESS Health China. Prior to joining ACCESS Health, Qianjin worked on aging related programs as a consultant with Hejun Consulting Group and Clearstate, a specialized healthcare research agency based in Singapore. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Engineering and Management from Tianjin University. He is a PhD candidate in Biophysics at Peking University and a student at Hejun Business School.

Rui Hu

Rui Hu

Program Manager

Rui Hu is leading the ACCESS Health Futures program in China. The program is a not for profit healthcare innovation catalyst. The program supports entrepreneurs and young startups in health related fields. Prior to joining ACCESS Health, Rui interned at the United Nations. At the United Nations, she focused on HIV prevention, women's political participation, and domestic violence prevention. Rui received a Master’s degree from Harvard School of Public Health in the United States and a Bachelor’s degree from Yuanpei College of Peking University in China. Outside of work, she loves dancing and traveling.

Tina Ja

Tina Ja

Senior Consultant

Tina is a project lead in the Beijing office. She focuses on engagement and development of new projects and partnerships. Tina is also involved in developing the Asia Health Innovation Leaders Network. Prior to joining ACCESS Health, Tina worked in wealth management in Canada, where she built and managed a portfolio of high net worth clients with a variety of professional and cultural backgrounds. She has an MBA from Tsinghua-MIT Sloan, and holds an Honors Bachelor’s degree in Human Biology and Economics from University of Toronto. Linguo Li is helping to establish our offices in mainland China. She brings eight years of experience in research and development, management consulting, mergers and acquisitions, and healthcare industry investment. Previously, Linguo worked at Takeda Pharmaceutical as a researcher in the development of new biologics for central nervous system diseases. She also provided consultation services on market assess and expansion strategy for top pharmaceutical and medical device companies at Smith Street Solutions. In addition, Linguo worked in science investment at a venture capital fund and as a commercial director of Medimix Asia. At Medimix Asia, she oversaw multinational market research, pricing, and market access project management in the healthcare industry. Linguo is a PhD candidate in Health Economics at Fudan University. She holds a Master's degree in Medical Genetics, also from Fudan University, and Bachelor's degrees in Medicine and Science from Jilin University.

Qing Liu is helping to launch the Modern Aging program in Shanghai. Prior to joining ACCESS Health, Qing was the director of human resources and finance at Peking University School of Transnational Law. She handled transnational operations at the school for four years. She also spent two years organizing the construction of the new law school building. She received both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Material Science and Engineering from the University of Science and Technology, Beijing. She developed a strong interest in healthcare from her research. She enjoys playing violin and guitar in her spare time.

Shu Shang provides support to Chang Liu and ACCESS Health China. She has a strong interest in health financing and healthcare systems and policies. Her experience ranges from research on rural finances and the healthcare industry in rural China to the public impact of corporate social responsibility programs in China. Shu is a Master's candidate in Finance from Zhongnan University of Economics and Law. She plays classical guitar and teaches modern dance in her spare time.

Richard Zhao is responsible for logistics and project outreach of the Modern Aging program. He is a rising senior majoring in finance from New York University Shanghai where he served as a resident assistant and the clubs committee founding chair. Prior to joining ACCESS Health, he worked as a legislative intern in the United States House of Representatives while he studied abroad in Washington D.C. Zhao is interested in law and public policy and aspires to go to law school after graduation.

Li Zhang participated in the establishment of our offices in mainland China. She brings eight years of experience in strategic and management consulting, mergers and acquisitions, and financing in the financial service and health industries. Li majored in law and passed the China BAR exam. Previously, Li worked at Enhance International as a project manager in project execution and business development. Before Enhance International, she was a Senior Consultant with SmithStreetSolutions. She has provided strategic and operation consulting and financing services for top insurance companies, including China Pingan Insurance, Taikang Life, Sunshine Insurance, State Farm, and Progressive. She was also involved in a cancel protection insurance product suitable in China market design project with GenRe insurance company.

Qionglin Xu

Qionglin Xu is an intern at ACCESS Health China. She is an undergraduate student at Fuzhou University and majoring in Chemistry. Qionglin was enrolled in the Student Research Training Program and published several research papers as the third author. She was a director of her student government and organized several student activities. She also has experience at the Fujian Television Station. Quionglin has a strong interest in healthcare, the ageing population in China, and other health related policies.

Zhun Meng is a volunteer at ACCESS Health China. He is an undergraduate student at the Questrom School of Business at Boston University. He is majoring in finance. Zhun has a strong interest in learning about corporate operations. His public welfare interests come from his volunteer work with Little Brothers, Boston. The nonprofit organization helps elderly people who suffer from loneliness, tenuousness, or loss of self sufficiency.

Fei Fang is a senior project manager with ACCESS Health. She is specialized in providing knowledge solutions and resources network in the area of senior care industry. She has four years of experience in managing and executing consulting projects, offering the service of strategic scheming, business positioning, and operation planning. She has served many types of clients including the local government, state owned groups, leading real estate companies, insurance enterprises, and service providers. Fei is also interested in the innovation of government and non governmental organizations in the long term care field. She has previously been involved in an assessment project of the care service provision system at the district level. In the past two years, she has continued to provide consulting services to local non governmental organizations as a volunteer.

Fei Fang holds a Master's degree in social policy from the London School of Economics and a Bachelor's degree in Sociology from Fudan University, Shanghai.

Vera Siesjö leads our work in the Philippines. She currently manages projects on health financing and healthcare quality improvement, including the Joint Learning Network for Universal Health Coverage. Prior to joining ACCESS Health International, Vera worked as a project coordinator for an international press agency, producing country reports for The Economist, The Times, and USA Today in Mexico, Sri Lanka, and Thailand. Vera also worked as project coordinator for a state funded mental health and psychosocial support program in public hospitals in Argentina. The program aimed at integrating mental health into primary healthcare. Vera holds a a Master's of Science in Psychology degree from the University of Palermo and a Master’s degree in International Public Health from the University of Sydney. When not working, Vera enjoys running, kite surfing, and traveling.

Cara works on a project evaluating the effects of corporatization on public hospitals in the Philippines. Prior to joining ACCESS Health, Cara worked with the World Health Organization to organize and communicate with international medical field teams in response to Typhoon Haiyan. She also worked with the World Health Organization to produce Western Pacific Regional data evaluating health equity and right to health. Cara also has experience working with the University Health Network in Toronto in a clinical and research capacity pertaining to surgical and patient outcomes for oncology patients. Cara is currently a medical student at Our Lady of Fatima University in Valenzuela City, Philippines. She holds a Bachelor of Arts and Science degree in International Development Studies and Molecular Biology from McGill University, and a Master’s degree in International Public Health from the University of Sydney. Outside of work, she enjoys travelling, jogging, cooking, and watching sports.

Ida Marie Pantig is part of the project on the effects of corporatization in government hospitals in the Philippines. She is also a Research Associate at the Philippine Institute for Development Studies where she has done work on various Philippine health systems issues such as health financing and health resources. She recently concluded a study on capital investments in Philippine hospitals and health centers. She was a senior lecturer at the Department of Social Sciences of the University of the Philippines Manila. Ida holds a Bachelor’s degree in Development Studies from the same university and a Master’s degree in Public Policy from the Graduate School of Public Policy at the University of Tokyo. In addition to health systems, Ida’s interests include indie pop music, cooking, and life in space.

Roxanne Belen

Roxanne Belen is part of the study documenting the corporatization of public hospitals in the Philippines. Prior to joining ACCESS Health, Roxy served as a professor at the University of the Philippines, Los Banos for eight years. Roxy then joined the Department of Health as a research fellow and went on to join the National Tuberculosis Control program. Roxy coauthored a Tuberculosis research paper for the National Tuberculosis Control program that was published by the World Health Organization. She later became the Research Associate for the Zuellig Family Foundation where she managed research studies focusing on maternal and child health. Roxy then joined 101 Health Research as a Research Manager. Roxy holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biology, majoring in Microbiology and a Master’s degree in Microbiology, with a minor in Medical Microbiology from the University of the Philippines, Los Banos and Manila. When not working, Roxy serves as a Sunday school teacher, teaching one to three year old students how to pray and properly disinfect their hands before eating.

Anjo Dela Peña

Anjo Dela Peña is currently involved in a study focusing on the effects of corporatization of government hospitals in the Philippines. He is a trained medical professional and worked as a clinical registered nurse in the Lung Center of the Philippines where he and his fellow researchers were recognized for their research on patient satisfaction on the bedside competencies rendered by staff nurses. He then worked under the Conditional Cash Transfer Program as a Project Development Officer in the Department of Social Welfare and Development, National Capital Region. Through a scholarship from Ford Foundation International, he obtained his Master’s Degree from the De La Salle University, Manila. Under the Master of Health Social Science program, he received various training on gender studies, health social science research, community organization and development, population studies, and program planning and management. In his spare time, Anjo engages in volunteer work, solving puzzles, doing yoga, running, and traveling.

Prior to joining ACCESS Health, Joy served as a Research Assistant under the Research and Biotechnology Division of St. Luke’s Medical Center, Global City. Joy then worked as a Senior Research Associate in the College of Public Health of the University of the Philippines, Manila. Joy holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and is currently taking her Master’s degree in the Science of Public Health, majoring in Biostatistics from the University of the Philippines, Manila. When not working, Joy loves to swim, sing, read, and play computer games.

Chang Liu

Chang Liu

Managing Director for Singapore, Mainland China, and Hong Kong

Chang Liu manages our work in East and Southeast Asia. He is an author of the Epilogue to Affordable Excellence, which documents the progress toward sustainable high quality healthcare in Singapore during 2013 and 2014. He also works with Dr. William Haseltine on our forthcoming book A City for All Ages. He is involved in designing and supervising ACCESS Health aging related projects in Southeast Asia and Greater China.

In addition to his work with ACCESS Health, Chang Liu is an assistant professor in Health Services and Systems Research at Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School and the Center for Ageing and Education at Duke-NUS. At Duke, Chang's work focuses on health insurance policy and long term care policy. His current research examines the impact of insurance policies on the behavior of patients and providers and the economic implications using econometric study designs. He also participates in several projects on aging in Singapore, including large scale national surveys and intervention programs. Before joining Duke-NUS, he worked at the Center for Gerontology and Healthcare Research at Brown University, where he studied long term care and elder care policies in both the United States and China. He earned his PhD in Health Services Research (2013) from Brown University with a specialization in health economics. He was awarded the eXebs Friedrich J. Schoening International Scholarship and was named an eXebs Fellow during his exchange study at the European Business School, Germany. He also received a Master's degree in Finance (2009) from the Guanghua School of Management of Peking University, China.

Adrienne Mendenhall

Adrienne Mendenhall leads our Singapore office. She identifies innovations in elder and chronic care models in Singapore and the region and works to translate these innovations to other markets. Prior to joining ACCESS Health International, Adrienne worked in education administration for the National University of Singapore Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health. In the US, she had a decade of experience in community health promotion, focusing on reproductive and adolescent health and the prevention and management of noncommunicable chronic diseases. Adrienne received her Master’s of Public Health from the University of Minnesota.

Fredrik Knoeff works in the ACCESS Health Singapore office, where he leads operational and programmatic growth. He specializes in professionalizing organizations, teams, and programs. He has over ten years of experience in the public and private sector and in the nongovernmental organization world. Previously, Fredrik worked in Tanzania as a management advisor for a local nongovernmental organization reaching out to vulnerable and marginalized groups. In the Netherlands, he worked as management consultant and was the managing director and attorney at law at a medium sized law firm. Fredrik has a Master’s degree in Management from Nyenrode Business University and a law degree from Leiden University, both in the Netherlands.

Xiaolu Bi

Xiaolu Bi is responsible for operations and overall project management in Singapore. She is also engaged in regional public private partnership initiatives. Xiaolu holds a Master's of Public Health degree from Yale University. Prior to joining ACCESS Health, she interned at the World Health Organization in Geneva and later worked at the World Bank in Washington, DC, as a junior professional associate. She enjoys traveling and doing volunteering work.

Jananie Audimulam is the manager of the Modern Aging program. She is passionate about health promotion and chronic disease prevention through the use of technology, especially in vulnerable populations. Previously, Jananie was a research associate in the Health Economics and Sociology group at the NUS Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health. She holds a Master of Public Health degree from NUS, where she was awarded the competitive regional Graduate ASEAN Scholarship. In her spare time she likes painting, reading and tries not to get lost while traveling.

Denise Ong works on building a cross sector community of practice to share learnings, develop innovative solutions, and accelerate progress toward a health system that empowers and mobilizes older people to care for themselves and for each other. She joined the Singapore team in 2015, managing the Stay Young Navigators program. Denise has ten years' experience applying social marketing and behavior change techniques across different health areas. Prior to joining ACCESS Health, she worked at the UK's center of excellence for social marketing and behavior change (The NSMC) and Consumer Futures. She holds a BA in Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology from Yale University, and an MSc in Public Health from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

Eti Bhasker provides research for our series of books about the health policy planning approach of Singapore, including Affordable Excellence: The Singapore Healthcare Story,the Epilogue to Affordable Excellence, and the forthcoming A City for All Ages. Eti first became interested in health policy while completing her medical degree at King George’s Medical University in India. She subsequently earned her Master’s degree in Public Policy from Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy at the National University of Singapore. Outside of work, Eti loves exploring the outdoors.

Shirlene Liew works in our Singapore office, where she focuses on strengthening the networks between homecare agencies and solutions providers. She is interested in promoting healthcare innovation through design and technology. Shirlene has managed and facilitated healthcare hackathons in Singapore, the US, and the UK as a member of MIT Hacking Medicine. Prior to joining ACCESS Health, Shirlene worked in the public sector in Singapore. She has held roles in innovation policy, industry development, and international relations. Shirlene is currently a Master's of Engineering student at the Singapore University of Technology and Design. Her research examines the demand for multispecialty outpatient care at hospitals. Shirlene is a mechanical engineer by training with a Master's degree from Stanford University. She also has a Master's degree in System Design and Management from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Justinian Liu is based in Singapore and supports the Modern Aging program in both Singapore and China. He is a PhD candidate at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore, and an alumnus of the Singapore-Stanford Biodesign Program. He is interested in the commercialization of wearable technology and data science in solving healthcare problems.

Sofia Widén

Sofia Widén

Sofia Widén leads the Elder Care Case Studies project, a series of studies on innovative elder care in Sweden and elsewhere in Europe. Previously, Sofia worked as a legislative aide to a member of the Virginia State Legislature in the United States, where she worked on education, healthcare reform, and on environmental laws. Sofia also served as a youth delegate to the United Nations in Brazil, Qatar, and in Stockholm. In this capacity, she supported a new international climate change agreement.

Sofia holds a Master of Arts in Economics and Politics from the University of Edinburgh in the United Kingdom. She studied French at the Sorbonne in Paris and in Montréal, Canada. She also completed one year of studies at the Robins School of Business at the University of Richmond in Virginia.

Svea Meyer provides supports the Program Manager of ACCESS Health Sweden. She holds a Master's Degree in International Health from Uppsala University in Sweden. Her thesis focused on the access to healthcare services for people with albinism in Tanzania. Svea has worked in Tanzania and Germany as an occupational therapist for four years and holds a Bachelor's degree in the same field. She enjoys being outdoors, and engaging in sports such as running, hiking, and snowboarding.

Stéphanie Treschow

Stéphanie Treschow advises our work in Sweden. She is the former Country Manager of ACCESS Health Sweden. Stéphanie has a background in banking and previously worked as an equity sales analyst at Citigroup in London, where she advised institutional clients on global equities. She has also worked with the private charitable foundation The World We Want, identifying and evaluating projects aimed at poverty alleviation and solutions to environmental degradation, primarily in Haiti and East Africa. Stéphanie holds a Master’s of Science degree in Finance from the Stockholm School of Economics. Since she made the 180 degree turn from institutional banking to public health, she has attended a healthcare quality improvement program at the Harvard School of Public Health. She is a keen traveler to remote places, preferably where she can participate in some of the many sports she practices.

William Haseltine

William A. Haseltine

Chairman and President

William A. Haseltine, PhD, has an active career in both science and business. He was a professor at Harvard Medical School and Harvard School of Public Health from 1976 to 1993, where he was founder and the chair of two academic research departments, the Division of Biochemical Pharmacology and the Division of Human Retrovirology. He is well known for his pioneering work on cancer, HIV/AIDS, and genomics. He has authored more than two hundred manuscripts in peer reviewed journals and is the author of several books, including Affordable Excellence: The Singapore Healthcare Story, published in 2013. He is the founder of Human Genome Sciences, Inc., and served as the chairman and CEO of the company until 2004. He is also the founder of several other successful biotechnology companies. Companies he has founded account for seven drugs currently on the market. He is chairman of the Haseltine Foundation for Science and the Arts. He serves as an advisor and board member of several innovative healthcare companies.

He is chairman of the US-China Health Summit and a member of the advisory board of the IE University, Madrid, and the advisory council for the Koch Institute of MIT and the Life Sciences Foundation. He is a member of the advisory boards of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (India), the Ragon Institute, the FXB Center for Health and Human Rights at the Harvard School of Public Health and the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) of India. He is also a Lifetime Governor of the New York Academy of Sciences, a member of the board of AID for AIDS International, an honorary member of the Board of Trustees of the Brookings Institution, and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.

Sofi Bergkvist leads the strategic direction of ACCESS Health International and oversees the development and management of all programs, projects, and staff in the eight countries in which we work. Sofi began ACCESS Health International in India, where she built strategic partnerships to improve access to high quality, affordable healthcare. Today, she continues to establish and manage partnerships with the private sector, governments, and research and development organizations around the world. Previously, Sofi worked as an analyst for an asset management company in India and as an advisor at the European Commission's delegation to the United Nations in New York. She has a Master's of Science in International Economics from the Stockholm School of Economics and studied at the MBA program at McGill University. When not working, Sofi climbs mountains and trains for triathlons.

Jean Galiana joined ACCESS Health in early 2015. She conducts research on innovative elder care delivery, community inclusion, age friendly cities, and the integration of healthcare systems across disciplines. She also documents models of excellence in elder care through blogs, interviews, and case studies. Jean is helping to build the United States arm of the ACCESS Health global Joint Learning Program for Elder Care. Jean received her Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Lehman College. Prior to joining ACCESS Health, Jean sang opera as a dramatic soprano.

Christina Manng

Christina Manng supports the Executive Director of ACCESS Health International with administrative tasks, research, and communications. Christina holds a Master of Public Administration focused in Health and Human Services from the University of Arizona and studied in the MSc. Public Health program at the Karolinska Institutet in Sweden. Christina has also provided communications and administrative support services to two members of Congress and executives at a pediatric healthcare clinic. She enjoys being outdoors and a nice cup of coffee.

Anna Dirksen is Director of Communications at ACCESS Health International. She has more than ten years of strategic communications experience across a broad range of healthcare issues and geographic areas. Previously, she was Vice President at Corkery Unlimited, one of the leading strategic consulting firms specializing in health and medical communications.

Anna has led communications and outreach strategies at the United Nations Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability in Tokyo, Japan, the UN Department of Peacekeeping Operations in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and at the UN Secretariat in New York. She also previously served as Deputy Director of Communications for the global health organization PSI in Washington D.C. She earned her MSc from Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism and began her career as a television host, reporter, and producer in Canada.
