ACCESS Health Convenes Multi-Stakeholder Consultation to Advance Systems-Based Action on AMR

ACCESS Health International, in collaboration with Malla Reddy Vishwavidyapeeth (MRV), recently convened a high-level multi-stakeholder consultation in Telangana, India, to address the urgent and complex challenge of Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR). The consultation served as a strategic platform to align efforts across sectors and identify collaborative, system-based interventions to reverse AMR, building on the state’s existing initiatives.

The dialogue brought together experts, policymakers, academicians, and practitioners to deliberate on actionable strategies to tackle AMR through an integrated, One Health approach. The discussions emphasized the importance of enhancing data systems, strengthening surveillance, and promoting stewardship across both human and animal health systems. Stakeholders also explored avenues for private sector engagement and community-led innovations in AMR mitigation.

In his keynote address, Dr. N. Krishna Reddy, CEO of ACCESS Health International, framed AMR as a complex systems issue rooted in health, environmental, and societal failures. He highlighted the need for primordial prevention – intervening early at the systemic level to address root causes such as environmental exposures.

Sessions were facilitated by Dr. Shrikant Kalaskar, Dr. Ranga Reddy Burri, Dr. Anil Kaul, and Dr. Sushmita Sunder, covering themes including surveillance, stewardship, One Health response, and innovation in AMR. A significant outcome of the consultation was the collective agreement to establish a dedicated consortium to steer systems-based interventions and sustain momentum on AMR under a shared One Health mission.

The event was convened under the leadership of Dr. Raman Muthusamy, Dean & Professor, SPHST, MRV, and Dr. Shrikant Kalaskar, with support from Dr. Sudha Ramana, Chancellor, and Dr. Kranti Kiran Reddy Ealla, Director of Research at MRV.
