ACCESS Health India Helps Celebrate One Year Anniversary of India’s Biggest Health Program

ACCESS Health India has been working closely with the government of India as it rolls out its flagship health insurance program in the state of Uttar Pradesh. Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, known locally by its acronym PMJAY, is a fully sponsored government health insurance program launched in 2018 by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The program helps individuals access healthcare services at secondary and tertiary care hospitals when in need.

The main government implementation agency for the program, the National Health Authority, organized a series of events to celebrate the one year anniversary of PMJAY. One of the activities was a marketplace that showcased best practices and innovations in implementing the program from 13 states and six startup organizations. ACCESS Health India supported the state of Uttar Pradesh with their marketplace stall, which highlighted the work done by the State Agency for Comprehensive Health Insurance and Integrated Services. The stall also showcased the work done towards claims processing and fraud management, and key milestones reached in implementing the insurance program. The stall was visited by the Union Minster for Health and Family Welfare and several other dignitaries and other state guests. The state was awarded third prize for content and presentation.

ACCESS Health also published and distributed the annual report on behalf of the state. The report shares progress on beneficiary engagement and empowerment and setting up delivery and institutional systems, and includes a one year report card from the state and a path forward for the second year of the program.
