As a social activist, Dr. Haseltine raised awareness and played a pivotal role in securing funding for AIDS research, dramatically increasing the U.S. budget for HIV/AIDS from $1 million to nearly $400 million. His efforts have also extended to founding over a dozen biotechnology companies, including Human Genome Sciences Inc., and educating generations of future doctors during his tenure as a professor at Harvard University.
