High Level Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Meeting Features ACCESS Health International

Chang Liu, managing director of ACCESS Health Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Singapore was invited to speak at the 8th APEC High Level Meeting on Health and the Economy: Transforming Primary Care through Investment, Innovation and Collaboration. The meeting took place in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea from August 16 to 17, as part of the third APEC Senior Officials Meeting.

Dr. Liu spoke about health systems in the Asia Pacific region, highlighting the need for delivery system reform, new financing models, and digital revolutions. Using research conducted by ACCESS Health, Dr. Liu provided perspective on the regional challenges of Asia Pacific health systems and an analysis of the current revolution of digital health and health technology booming in China and the ASEAN countries. He highlighted the importance of six key trends of health system transformation — connected and integrated, people centric, high quality, value based, affordable, and sustainable – and the need for these trends to be supported by health technology and health policy innovations. Dr. Liu also introduced the work being done by ACCESS Health and its Health Futures program to promote health innovations.

The meeting ended with an agreement reached by all participants on the importance of innovation and technology toward health transformation. Read more about the meeting here.
