ACCESS Health Philippines, a former office of ACCESS Health, was a key partner to the Philippines Department of Health, supporting the formulation of policies and regulations through collaboration with the Policy Development and Planning Bureau and the Health Facility Development Bureau. The office played a critical role in assessing healthcare reforms and the corporatization of public hospitals.
Beyond national efforts, ACCESS Health Philippines worked closely with local governments, the World Health Organization, and the World Bank to strengthen health systems and improve access to affordable care. One of its flagship initiatives was the Global Health Emerging Leaders program, launched in 2019, which trained a new generation of health leaders. The program, inspired by a global health course created by the then Philippines Country Director, Don Prisno, aimed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills to address complex health challenges. The course emphasized the importance of local health issues within the broader global health context.
In its first year, the program organized workshops in China, Egypt, and Nigeria, with graduates from it global health course becoming influential in policy and research. The Philippines office contributed significantly to strengthening healthcare in the country and fostering future global health leaders.
