Comprehensive Landscape Study
A combination of primary and secondary research was employed to assess the current landscape and identify policy gaps and opportunities for innovation.
Together, governments, fintech companies, digital health start-ups, telecommunications and financing institutions, investors, and development partners can create an enabling environment for a Fintech for Health ecosystem that places patient needs at the center of innovation. A Fintech for Health ecosystem approach supports providers and payers in the provision, administration, and management of health care, including national insurance programs.
COVID-19 has demanded that countries invest smartly in comprehensive digital solutions so that patients can access and pay for the health care they need, when they need it, in the communities in which they live and work. Digital finance, e-commerce, and telehealth policies in Southeast Asia quickly adapted to the “new normal,” a phase that feels new and anything but normal.
Governments are required to maintain a balancing act of reactionary financing and strategic investment that supports population health needs both in the immediate future and for decades to come. A Fintech for Health approach balances enterprise and development goals to attain universal health coverage for all people.
