Enhancing Access to New Treatments

The Indian healthcare system faces the ongoing challenge of ensuring that patients have timely and affordable access to quality medicines. As new treatments and pharmaceutical innovations emerge, it becomes increasingly important to optimize the public procurement system to effectively deliver these advancements to the broader population. In this context, the Organisation of Pharmaceutical Producers of India (OPPI), in collaboration with ACCESS Health International, is undertaking a research study to explore potential collaborations between OPPI member companies and the Indian government. This study is particularly focused on enhancing access to newer treatments through the public procurement system, which plays a critical role in the availability of essential medicines across the country.

This study explores gaps in India’s public procurement system and provides strategies to improve access to new treatments and strengthen the healthcare supply chain.

Assess the current state of healthcare access and public procurement in India, identifying gaps that hinder the efficient distribution of newer treatments.

Analyze the impact of global supply chain participation on the Indian public health system.

Recommend strategies to strengthen procurement processes, ensuring the quality and availability of medicines.
