Strengthening Health Policy and Systems Research in Asia

The USAID-supported Health Systems Strengthening Accelerator (Accelerator) focuses on strengthening the Health Policy and Systems Research (HPSR) ecosystem in Asia through four locally led pilots. These pilots aim for sustainable policy engagement and better responsiveness to regional needs. The project features a living database, initially gathering HPSR data from India, Bangladesh, Indonesia, and the Philippines, with potential expansion.

Program Objectives

Establishing an HPSR evaluation framework and public database to enhance monitoring and address research gaps.

Develop a monitoring, learning, and evaluation framework for HPSR

Collect and analyze data on existing HPSR tools, databases, and gaps.

Create a publicly accessible database or tool focusing on indicators of Health Policy and Systems Research Institutions (HPSRIs).

Workstreams

Key Methodology

Qualitative Research and Data Collection

The project involved extensive data collection and analysis across multiple countries, resulting in a comprehensive HPSR database.

Key Findings

Data Collection Results

Over seven weeks, forty-six responses were collected. Indonesia and the Philippines achieved full survey completion, while India contributed sixteen responses and Bangladesh provided two profiles.

Pilot Achievements

The survey effectively engaged HPSRIs in the prioritized countries, with additional data collected from participants in a co-creation workshop, thereby expanding the range of institutions involved.

Survey Coverage

The pilot successfully captured comprehensive data from the targeted countries, with significant contributions from all mapped institutions in Indonesia and the Philippines, alongside valuable input from India and Bangladesh.
