With the rapid growth of digital health solutions, healthcare facilities are increasingly focused on enhancing operational efficiency and patient care through technology. A significant advancement in this domain is the implementation of integrated Hospital Management Information Systems (HMIS), which enable healthcare facilities to either transition from traditional paper-based operations to a digital mode or upgrade from legacy systems to more advanced and efficient solutions.
Output/ Resources:
Enhancing hospital operations and patient care at SMH through integrated HMIS, while ensuring compliance with ABDM standards.
Evaluate the impact of integrated HMIS on overall hospital operations at Scudder Memorial Hospital (SMH).
Assess the reduction in manual paperwork due to the adoption of HMIS.
Analyze improvements in operational efficiency resulting from HMIS implementation
Examine enhancements in patient care delivery facilitated by the integrated HMIS.
Ensure compliance of the HMIS with Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) standards and guidelines.
Systematic Review and Mixed Methodology
The study utilized self-administered structured surveys to collect both quantitative and qualitative insights from various departments at Scudder Memorial Hospital (SMH). A total of 115 participants, including hospital management, took part in the survey.
The average service time per patient in the laboratory decreased from 16 minutes to 13 minutes, and in the pharmacy from 16 minutes to 9 minutes. Patient waiting times at OPD registration were reduced by approximately 21 minutes.
83% of doctors reported improved clinical decision-making, 55% of pharmacy staff observed enhanced patient safety and inventory management, and 52% of laboratory staff noted better patient safety and resource management.
54% of nursing staff expressed satisfaction with the new HMIS, highlighting improvements in vitals capturing and the management of drugs and disposables.
